House Manual

PRACTICALITIES

WE WANT YOU TO ENJOY YOUR STAY, IF WE CAN DO ANYTHING TO IMPROVE YOUR COMFORT IN ANY WAY PLEASE SPEAK TO US, WE WILL BE GLAD TO ASSIST WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

Environment

It is our aim to impact on our environment as little as possible. We compost and recycle keenly, use ‘green’ cleaning products and recycled paper products, do our best to shop ethically and locally. We embrace organic principles with our animals and on our land. Our water comes from a private supply. A wood boiler heats the space and water for the studio and loft and our house, all wood used is harvested from our own woodlands.  All energy purchased is renewable.

Keys
There are two sets of keys provided please ensure these are left when  you vacate! To lock the door at night there is a thumb turn lock for  emergency exit.

Animals
We are sorry but furry friends are no permitted to stay in the Loft Apartment, we have too many of our own! Please don’t allow the cats into the apartment, if you are in the bedroom with the vellum window please do not prop it open too far as you may find you have cats and even bats joining you in bed during the night!

Do feel free to bump noses with the alpacas over the fence, they love a selfie and are very gentle.

THE BATHROOM…

Towels

We would be very grateful if you throw your used towels in the bath or shower at the end of your stay to indicate items to launder.

Operating the showers

As we have a well water system and very little pressure, it is necessary to switch the shower on, then pull the red cord outside the shower to engage the pump.

Toiletries

You will find a hand made guest soap with your towels, these are made on the premises and ingredients can be listed if you are concerned of any allergy. The containers in the bathrooms are filled with The Soap Company biodegradable, vegan soap and moisturiser (as labelled).

Heating/hot water

It is our policy to keep spatial and water heating to a minimum in order to conserve energy, however we want you to be comfortable and have hot water when ever you need it. If your room is too cold, firstly ensure your radiator valve is turned up to the fullest setting, then check the dial located on the lounge wall (we keep this set at 19 degrees, but you may wish to turn it up to 22 degrees or so if you suffer from the cold).

The heating is set to come on from 5pm-11pm and from 7am-9am in the winter, the water will be heated during these hours in both summer and winter.  Please ask if you require heating or water at different times and we will reset the controller as you prefer.

Sanitary disposal

For your uninterrupted enjoyment of the facilities due to our independent sewage system, we ask that you place ONLY toilet paper in the toilets and ensure all other items are placed in the bags provided in the bathroom bins.

THE BEDROOMS…

The quilt on your bed is made with alpaca fleece from our alpacas, please see our website if you would like one to purchase! If you would prefer a hollow fibre duvet please ask and we will be happy to swap it over.

Blankets/pillows

Our water is from a well, it passes through an ultraviolet unit and sediment filter before reaching the taps and so is completely free of purification chemicals used by water boards.  It is suitable for drinking, and is tested annually.
