This year’s course will have two elements: The focus on making original pieces in wax to be cast in Bronze using the ancient lost wax casting process. You will learn the techniques required to cast in bronze; starting with wax sculpting and creating a casting tree over the first two days, then casting your sculpture, finishing your castings and finally patination techniques the following week. This course is suitable for all levels of ability and experience. As an optional extra there will be a one day Silicone Mould Making Course held on Wednesday 11th of September where you will be invited to bring found objects or small items and learn to take a simple silicone box mould in order to replicate in wax and cast. This may be for simple repetition or a series may be created with minor adjustment made making each cast slightly different, such as an animal in movement. This will be of particular interest to anyone who has attended a past class and would like to replicate what they have made, as well as those new to casting who want a full introduction to the process.

£395 for four days or £495 with the additional mould making day (plus materials approx. £110 )

or £495 with the additional mould making day (plus materials approx. £70 to include both wax casting and mould making course)

A two-day introduction to relief printing repeat patterns, in which you will learn how to use the tools and techniques needed to design, carve and print your own designs. You will be taught the basics of repeat pattern design using geometric and botanical motifs and go on to design a pattern yourself. You will then be taught how to transfer your images to a block and use carving tools to make your designs into a relief block, which we will print using ink and rollers onto paper. Gemma uses repeat blocks in order to produce designs for her beautiful range of wallpapers. You may like to take a look!
