The Kitchen Garden at The Old Kennels

The Kitchen Garden at The Old Kennels is the result of nearly 20 years planting – we favour perennials artichokes, asparagus, strawberries, aronia, blueberries, gooseberries, redcurrants, King Henry spinach, white currants, figs, herbs, spices, Szechuan peppercorns, and blackcurrants to name just a few, as well as numerous fruit and nut trees. You will find many useful edibles intermixed with annual sowings and edible flowers.

For me the joy of our garden is that it grows with so little management, time is always at a premium here so beds tend to be planted on a ‘two chances’ basis, but the perennials always come up trumps in return for no more than a good layer of muck.

We also have a good selection in the hedgerows too! See our forage list for just some of the plants we find locally in our hedgerows.
