WWOOF HOSTING

We are pleased to host wwoofers between classes for stays of three nights to one week – if you’re not familiar with wwoof see www.wwoof.org for more details on how to register, what it entails and all the great benefits for hosts and workers internationally.

WWOOFing with us…

Situated in the beautiful Blackdown Hills on the Devon/Somerset border on a twenty five acre holding, we do our best to live lightly, cropping electricity from photovoltaic panels, water heating from solar thermal and space/water heating our own wood fuel.  We grow fruit, herbs, salad and vegetables, and enjoy home preserving, brewing and foraging. We have a herd of homebred alpacas which we keep solely for fibre which we produce quilts and blankets from.

There’s always plenty to do, we are constantly improving our terraced fruit and vegetable garden which has raised beds, poly tunnel, greenhouse on the site of our old sloping garden (about ¼ acre total) and need help de-weeding/nettle pulling and digging/constructing new beds as well as general upkeep, planting, sowing and harvesting (companion planted and organic). We also have plenty of muck to move around, fencing, pasture and woodland maintenance.

From time to time there might be painting indoors, or preservative to paint on stables, window cleaning or other house maintanence tasks too…really whatever needs doing!

We run courses in rural and traditional arts, crafts and skills and also have four star/Green Tourism Gold B&B accommodation  where you will stay. Unfortunately we cannot usually take WWOOFers when we have courses running as the accommodation is let to students, so we are looking for short term stays between courses (three nights to a week).

It might all sound a bit like ‘The Good Life’ but its actually a lot of hard work so we are glad of extra pairs of hands from time to time.

Couples or friends are welcome and we would be glad of help for 5hrs per day in exchange for bed & meals (self-catered in your accommodation), leaving you free to explore the beautiful hills and surrounding area in the afternoons (approx 30 mins to the Jurassic coastline).

We require that all WWOOFers have their own insurance and valid WWOOF membership number – you will be asked for these before you come to stay.

SUMMER 2018 UPDATE … We have been Wwoof hosts for many years, but are currently taking a break, we hope to be advertising WWOOFing opportunities again soon.
